HISTORY

The "Shim Sham Shimmy" is a popular tap dance routine that has its roots in African American vernacular dance. It was originally choreographed by tap dancer Leonard Reed and his partner Willie Bryant in the early 1930s. The routine became popular in the swing dance scene during the 1930s and 1940s, and was often performed by the famous jazz musician and bandleader Cab Calloway. Over the years, the "Shim Sham Shimmy" has evolved and been adapted by many different tap dancers, and is still a beloved routine that is often performed in tap dance classes, festivals and events all over the world.
